Our inspiration

The Waxwing Bohemian Gin follows the aromatic path of the waxwing.

A sociable traveler, this slender and rebel bird, travels as much the large desert plains as the small city gardens of Canada and the United States in search of berries to relish. Crazy about berries, it particularly loves those of the juniper. This is what inspired the creation of our gin.

Our ultramodern distillery and its crafting methods

The Waxwing Gin is a creation of Artist in Residence Distillerie, an ultramodern microdistillery that abides by the principles of artisanal distillation.

As per our grain-to-glass philosophy, we meticulously craft our gin by hand in our ultramodern facility, using the finest ingredients and the freshest water, sourced onsite from an exclusive groundwater spring.

Each new product is co-created with an artist in residence. The Waxwing Gin is inspired by the expression of a Canadian perfume designer’s passion for fragrances and the animal kingdom.

Fragrances

Our gin expresses its modernity by drawing its clear orange colour from a maceration of rose hip berries and botanical extracts.

The Waxwing Bohemian Gin is crafted from 8 fragrances:

  • Juniper berries
  • Coriander
  • Lemon peel
  • Angelica archangelica
  • Licorice
  • Quassia bark
  • Mountain ash berries
  • Rose hip berries

Signature cocktail

Waxwing Gin Monsieur Cocktail

Our Waxwing Gin signature, prepared by Monsieur Cocktail:

  • 2 oz. of Waxwing Gin
  • 1 oz. of Monsieur Cocktail lemon syrup (or 1 oz. of fresh lemon juice + 0.75 oz. of simple syrup)
  • 1 cube of green pepper
  • 3 slices of ginger
  • Ice
  • 1 strawberry, for decoration

Combine the green pepper cube, ginger slices and simple syrup in a shaker. Add the gin and ice. Shake. Filter the mix through a fine sieve into an old-fashioned glass filled with ice.

Decorate with the strawberry.

Waxwing Gin and Tonic

  • 1.5 oz. of Waxwing Gin
  • 3 oz. of tonic water
  • 1 lime wedge

Waxwing Gin Collins

Here's our Waxwing Collins recipe:

  • 2 oz. Waxwing Gin
  • 1 oz. fresh lemon juice
  • 1 oz. simple syrup
  • 1 dash orange bitters (we used Angostura orange bitters)
  • Ice
  • Top with Club soda 
  • 1 lemon slice

Put all ingredients in a shaker except the club soda.  Shake well.  Strain into a Collins glass (or highball glass) filled with ice. Top with club soda. Garnish with a lemon rose.
